Academies

The Academy of Finance program offers a special plan of study in finance at the high school level, which also fulfills both required and elective credits. Classroom instruction, supplemented by mentoring from industry specialists, college-level class work, and field trips comprise the important components of this program. Together academy students work on projects in order to develop "real-world" personal, financial, and technical skills that will make them business leaders of tomorrow. Upon completion of the Academy of Finance, the student will receive a "Certificate of Financial Studies."

Students are enrolled in college-level interdisciplinary, general health care, communication, and science courses during their 10th, 11th, and 12th grade years. To participate in the Health Careers Program, and be eligible for Rutgers University college credits, students must complete the Dynamics of Health Care course and at least one other course. To graduate from this academy, each student must take at least three health career courses. There is an $80 fee for each Rutgers program exam.

The Academy of Law, Government and Public Safety creates a career interest pathway for students interested in careers in the practice of law, legislative work in the local, state, and federal government, law enforcement, fire service, and emergency services. Students interested in these fields are exposed to engaging and rigorous curriculum in elective choices to create a foundation in the career pathway in post-secondary or work force opportunities.

The STEM Academy provides students interested students in a career-focused college-level curriculum that is rich in both content and hands-on experiences. To graduate, students must take at least one course from any of the three discipline-specific lists below, along with three, or more, additional STEM courses. STEM Academy Scholars can graduated with Distinction honors after successfully completing a rigorous 3-year prescribed course of study program to develop career ready-skills.

The Academy of Visual Arts provides interested students with a focused curriculum and a career-based experience in the creative arts. After completing the foundational courses, students will select an area of concentration within their chosen field. Showcasing student work and performances are an integral part of the program. Courses emphasize interdisciplinary activities, cultural and historical relationships, career opportunities and college preparation in the arts. Focuses included 2-D, 3-D, and Graphic Design.

The Academy of Performing Arts provides interested students with a focused curriculum and a career-based experience in the creative arts. After completing the foundational courses, students will select an area of concentration within their chosen field. Showcasing student work and performances are an integral part of the program. Courses emphasize interdisciplinary activities, cultural and historical relationships, career opportunities and college preparation in the arts. Students may apply as early as Grade 9, and a minimum of 15 credits is required for graduation from the Performing Arts Academy.
